The Government of India has already established 24,097 new Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCSs) and strengthened 31,394 existing societies under White Revolution 2.0, moving toward its target of 75,000 new DCSs and 46,422 strengthened societies nationwide to expand milk procurement, improve farmer incomes, and enhance sustainability.
In Maharashtra, 735 new DCSs were formed against a target of 133 in 2024–25, while 316 have been established against the 2025–26 target of 913. The programme also supports Bulk Milk Coolers, Automatic Milk Collection Units, milk testing equipment, processing and chilling infrastructure, working capital, and technical assistance to strengthen dairy cooperatives.
The government’s objective is clear: expand cooperative coverage, improve market access, deliver better prices to small dairy farmers, promote sustainable dairy practices, and increase women’s participation in the dairy economy.
