Naidu Pushes for Reefer Trains, Stronger Rail Links to Boost Andhra’s Export Ambitions

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has called on the Railway Ministry to introduce dedicated refrigerated container trains to support the transport of agricultural, horticultural and aquaculture produce, while emphasising the need to strengthen rail connectivity to position the state as a key logistics and export hub.
The request was made during his visit to the temporary South Coast Railway (SCOR) zone office in Visakhapatnam, where he met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Both leaders also chaired a review meeting with senior officials from South Central Railway, East Coast Railway and the newly established SCOR zone. The discussions centred on the operational readiness of the new zone and the status of ongoing and proposed rail infrastructure projects across the state.
Naidu is also understood to have suggested administrative restructuring, including the integration of select railway stretches into the SCoR zone. He proposed bringing the Araku-Kothavalasa section and the Kurnool-Dhone line under its ambit, noting that such a move could enhance efficiency and support faster regional development.
