Telangana DCA seizes antibiotics & IV fluids from unlicensed premises of a quack in Sangareddy district

The drug control officials in Telangana, in a special raid conducted at the premises of a quack at Vavilala village in Sangareddy district, seized 25 varieties of medicines including antibiotics, analgesics and IV fluids from an unlicensed premises of a quack who was conducting clinical practice without proper qualification, according to a report by the state drug control administration.
Officials from the office of the director general of the DCA informed that the seized medicines included expired drugs also. The total confiscated medicines worth Rs. 10,000. Antibiotics such as cefpodoxime, amoxicillin and metronidazole were among the seized products.
Briefing Pharmabiz about the raid, an officer said indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on the health of the people including occurrence of ‘Antimicrobial resistance’. The officers lifted samples for testing and analysis. Further investigation will be carried out and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
He said stocking drugs for sale without a drug license is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment for up to five years.
Similarly, punishment is also applicable for the wholesalers/dealers who supply medicines to such unqualified persons who are stocking and selling drugs without a drug license. So, the wholesalers/dealers should mandatorily ensure that the recipient entities hold a valid drug license before supplying medicines to them. Stringent action will be taken against such dealers who violate the provisions of the act.
He said the drugs control administration in Telangana issues drug licenses for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940.
G. Srikanth, drugs inspector at Jinnaram carried out the raid along with T. Praveen Kumar, drugs inspector of Bollaram. The raid was supervised by P. Ramu, assistant director at Patancheru.
