In a study compiled by Crop Care Federation of India (CCFI) considering the top three pesticides users, it was revealed that EU uses 320,941 tons and is the highest consumer followed by China using 235,760 tons & India uses only 40,094 tons of technical grade pesticides.
However, in terms of Agriculture production in terms of Gross Value Added (GVA) China has the highest production $ 1,270 bn followed by India $571 bn and the least by EU $ 307 bn.
″If you analyse the data EU uses more pesticides for every unit of agricultural output produced. It is a fallacy and wrong perception that Indian farmers’ use higher quantity of pesticides″ stated Mr. Harish Mehta, Senior Advisor CCFI. Keeping in line with the global trend, majorly generic formulations are produced of quality matching global standards.
The EU, which has to be instrumental in influencing government policy, needs to face reality and all delusions need to stop.
The above data has been accessed from FAOSTAT and World Bank Database which reinforces India’s position in world market.
