Amul to establish world’s largest curd manufacturing plant in West Bengal

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), operating under the Amul brand, announced plans to construct the world’s largest curd manufacturing facility near Kolkata, West Bengal. The announcement was made by GCMMF Managing Director, Jayen Mehta, at the Bengal Global Business Summit.
The state-of-the-art Amul Bengal Dairy plant will be located at Sankrail Food Park in Howrah and represents a Rs 600 crore investment by Amul Dairy, a GCMMF member, implemented in two phases. The facility will boast a daily processing capacity of 10 lakh kg of curd products, including dahi, mishti doi, yogurt, lassi, and buttermilk. Furthermore, the integrated plant will also process and package 15 lakh litres of milk daily, alongside the production of ice cream, flavored milk, paneer, ghee, and UHT milk.
Mehta highlighted the strong consumer preference for curd in West Bengal, locally known as “tok doi” and “mishti doi,” emphasizing that the plant will address the increasing market demand. Amul currently holds the position of the largest fresh milk brand in the state, selling over 10 lakh litres daily. The company maintains a robust procurement network across 14 districts, engaging more than 1.2 lakh women milk producers.
Amul officials stated that this new facility will further bolster the dairy cooperative movement in West Bengal, aligning with the White Revolution 2.0 initiative of the Union cooperation ministry.
